The Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program is excited to announce its next program, bringing Dominican law students and young professionals to participate in the Transnational Law Program at the University of Georgia (UGA) School of Law, from April 13-23, 2014, in Athens, Georgia.

The Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program (GDAE) Transnational Law Program is a collaborative effort between InteRDom, a program of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), and the UGA School of Law. The 11-day program grants the opportunity for Dominican law students and young professionals to participate in a rigorous certificate program that introduces them to the American and international legal systems through a variety of courses and social and networking activities.

Dominican GDAE participants are joining Brazilian law students from the University Mauricio de Nassau School, Brazil, who are jointly participating in the program. In addition to their exposure to American legal education through 5 academic courses including International Law, International Environmental Law, US Constitutional, Environmental and Criminal Law, participants will receive private tours of the University of Georgia and the law school, as well as enjoy social events designed to inspire multicultural exchange and intellectual conversation between participants, students and Georgia Law professors.

Access to the Alexander Campbell King Law Library is also a feature of the program, which will aid students in their studies.  At the end of the program, participants will be inducted into the Georgia Society for International and Comparative Law, a student-run organization that organizes international opportunities for member students, which will host a mixer for all program participants and current Georgia Law students.
The program at UGA is one of many in 2014 for GDAE, which organizes a series of topic-specific events of short (maximum two weeks) duration in collaboration with faculty and Dominican student organizations at a variety of United States universities throughout the year.  The InteRDom staff works closely with faculty and student representatives to plan the activities, and then to recruit and bring students from Dominican universities to participate.  Hosting events with different thematic concentrations ensures that diverse groups of Dominican students have the opportunity to participate.
The Transnational Law Program is an initiative of the Dean Rusk Center for International Law and Policy aimed at bringing law students from foreign universities to study at Georgia Law for one to two weeks, providing a flexible curriculum and exposure to American legal education.

The Global Dominican Academic Exchange program, a project of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), an extension of their internship, research and study program, InteRDom, aims to introduce Dominican students to the American style of liberal arts education and encourage dialogue between Dominican students and their Dominican-American counterparts attending these institutions, thereby encouraging and inspiring partnership and entrepreneurship initiatives which will foster innovation and stimulate Dominican economic development and international understanding.
