Students at the University of Miami and Florida International University in Miami, Florida, will have a number of opportunities to meet with InteRDom representatives from February 13-15, 2013 to get more information on how participating in an internship in the Dominican Republic can enhance their marketability and professional growth.

On Wednesday, February 13th, InteRDom representatives will participate in the Career Expo at the University of Miami, the largest event of the year put on by the Toppel Career Center.

On Wednesday, February 13th, InteRDom representatives will participate in the Career Expo at the University of Miami, the largest event of the year put on by the Toppel Career Center.  The Expo attracts around 1,000 students and alumni, who come to discover the opportunities provided by hundreds of employers.  InteRDom will have a booth at the Expo to showcase specific internship opportunities in top organizations in the Dominican Republic, in fields which correspond to the most popular majors at UM: business, education, international relations and communications.

Immediately following the Career Expo, an InteRDom representative will give a presentation on the program to members of the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity prior to their weekly chapter meeting.  This will be an opportunity for them to receive more comprehensive information on internship possibilities in the rapidly-diversifying business sector in the Dominican Republic.

In addition to these events, InteRDom will also have a table with promotional materials manned by a representative from 11-2 p.m. on Thursday, February 14th in the breezeway at the University of Miami, and from 11-2 p.m. on Friday, February 15th in the Graham Center at Florida International University.

While exposure on campus and meeting students is of great importance, forming connections with faculty and staff members who can help to make the InteRDom program a more permanent fixture on campus is also a priority.  In that regard, representatives of the program will meet with faculty and staff members at Miami Dade College, University of Miami, Johnson and Wales University and Florida International University as time permits.

South Florida is a very important region for the InteRDom program to form lasting connections because of the size of the Dominican and Latino communities there, and for the research being conducted on them.  It serves as a gateway to the Caribbean, and is at the heart of the research that is currently being conducted on topics related to the rapid development and changing social and economic landscapes of the region.  This trip will serve to fortify relations with important universities and research centers in order to better serve students and participate in the research being conducted in the Dominican Republic.

The internship program, InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
