InteRDom Announces the Opening of Applications for the “Expert in the Spanish Caribbean” Program from January 7-17, 2013.

The “Expert in the Spanish Caribbean” program is the result of ongoing collaboration between the Department of Modern Languages, Classics and Literature of the University of Rhode Island with InteRDom. Professors Thomas Morín and Susana de los Heros will be leading the program.

Applications for the program will be accepted until October 30 through the Office of International Education of the University of Rhode Island, where scholarships and financial aid opportunities are also available.

The proposed itinerary of this 6-credit course will include a series of professional conferences, service learning activities and cultural visits around the country.

Participants will be immersed in presentations given by local experts on the country’s indigenous legacy, political history and aspects of race and gender. In addition, students will take part in professional dialogues on Dominican population dynamics, environment and the DR’s participation in regional commercial transactions.

InteRDom is the internship and research program of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE).  The program contributes to the internationalization of universities and exposing university students to professional experiences abroad. InteRDom promotes academic exchange and activities to enrich the potential of students and professors in order to reach a better understanding of the culture and development of the Dominican Republic.
