Undergraduate and graduate students — don’t miss the opportunity to gain professional and international experience by interning with a business or organization in the Dominican Republic. InteRDom, the premiere internship and academic program in the Dominican Republic, is now offering new and exciting internship opportunities in the areas of Communications and Marketing, Business, Engineering, Journalism and Environment.

Available Internship Opportunities

Communications and Marketing
Intern with a foundation that offers support programs and works to raise awareness of the difficulties that confront children and adolescents vulnerable to the risks associated with working and living on the streets. The internship consists of proposing and designing a communications and marketing program and implementation plan.

Business, Marketing and Engineering
Intern with an association that organizes honey producers in the areas of Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez and Montecristi to facilitate financing the production of honey and honey-derived products and ultimately market and sell these products internationally.  Internship responsibilities include: participating in events related to organization techniques; capacity building and training; improving beekeeping processes; expanding activities devoted to the planting of nectar generating plants; and elaborating an international business plan intended to strengthen commercial relations with the Dominican diaspora, in accordance with DR-CAFTA (Dominican Republic-Central American Free Trade Agreement).

Journalism
Intern with the most prominent media outlet in the Dominican Republic.  As an intern, you will have the opportunity to learn about the handling of information and daily publication processes, both in print and online. This position will afford an international intern interaction with Dominican experts and other students in the field.

Environment
Participate in the creation of an environmental encyclopedic dictionary about the ecology and natural resources of the Dominican Republic. Act as support staff to the content manager and be responsible for providing supplemental information for all terms in the dictionary, making sure that the information is up-to-date, comprehensive and complete.

Communications and Marketing
Intern with a non-profit organization that conducts work in the area of geriatric care.  Interns will have the opportunity to propose and design a communications and marketing program and implementation plan that promotes each department of the institution and strengthens fundraising initiatives. Interns may also choose a project focused on developing awareness-raising strategies directed towards civil society, government, and the community of Santiago as a whole, more specifically– concerning the problems that confront the elderly, in an effort to impact policy and services designed to improve the life conditions of the elderly.

Technology
Intern with a company that is a pioneer in the area of management. The company is a hardware and home repair store that prepares and executes solutions for business and home environments. Work with the technology department to implement the GLOBE system to energize sales and facilitate the import and export of XML files. 

The application deadline for the InteRDom Academic Semester (May-August) and the InteRDom Caribbean Summer Program (June-August) closes February 27, 2009.

The InteRDom Academic Semester is open to undergraduate students. It includes an internship with a prestigious organization or business, enrollment in classes at the Universidad Iberoamericana, and access to seminars on topics of importance regarding Democracy, Sustainable Development, Foriegn Affairs, Business, Education, Information and Communications Technologies, Environmental Preservation and Management and Culture.

The InteRDom Caribbean Summer Program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students and includes an internship, access to summer seminar seminars and enrollment in either a Spanish language immersion program (recommended for students that do not meet the language requirement) or the Caribbean Summer Training Program.

Students can apply to one of InteRDom’s programs by either filling out the attached form and sending it to InteRDom’s office in New York, or by beginning the process online at: (www.interdominternships.org/register.asp). InteRDom recommends that students possess a minimum GPA of 2.9, have completed 60% of their academic program and have taken 3 university-level Spanish courses.

In addition to obtaining invaluable professional experience and attending conferences and seminars featuring prominent national and international speakers, interns will be able to participate in get-togethers and excursions organized by InteRDom on a regular basis in various locations throughout the country to expose students to a greater extent to the culture and ecology of the Dominican Republic. Excursions include trips to Las Galeras, Altos de Chavón, Isla Saona, San Cristobal, Salcedo and Santiago.
