Over the past couple of years, InteRDom Internships in the Dominican Republic has grown, expanded and changed much like the world that w<\/span>e live in. <\/span>The simple \u201cstudent experience\u201d format of the former blog no longer reflected the multiple facets of the program. <\/span>More than just a simple internship and academic study program, InteRDo<\/span>m now <\/span>has a number of projects and collaborations promoting international intellectual exchange and the economic development of a spectrum of sectors in the Dominican Republic. <\/span><\/span>A couple of the<\/span>se programs are:<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Internship Supervisor Certification Seminar<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/a><\/span>\u2014 An <\/span>innovative<\/span> train<\/span>ing program designed to capacitate directors and employees of Dominican and international organizations interested in implementing new internship programs or in im<\/span>\"\"<\/a><\/span>proving existin<\/span>g ones in th<\/span>eir<\/span> respective companies or institutions. <\/span>Its content is developed by InteRDom staff members and consultants, and the progr<\/span>am is given appro<\/span>ximately three times a year in the Dominican <\/span>Republic. This program ensures a successful internship experience for both interns and organizations. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Fellows Program<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u2014<\/span>Inaugurated in 2010, <\/span>the Fellows Program<\/span><\/a><\/span> seeks to develop a community of scholars that contributes to the Foundation\u2019s growing body of research on matters of international concern that directly impact the Dominican Republic. <\/span>In the Fellows Program, Master\u2019s and PhD candidates travel to the Dominican Republic through InteRDom to conduct high-level research <\/span>on issues at the forefront of the United Nations agenda in order to give voice to national and regional conce<\/span>rns and to offer viable solutions to domestic and int<\/span>ernational challenges. Fellows that carry-out exemplary work have the opportunity to present their findings before the United Nations community on behalf of GFDD. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cExpert in the Spanish Caribbean\u201d and other short programs<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\u2014<\/span>In an effort to respond to the specific need<\/span><\/span>\"\"<\/a>s of universities, to encourage graduate and undergraduate students to deepen their learning and research on Caribbean issues and to aid teachers and professors in the internationalizat<\/span><\/span>ion of their curricu<\/span><\/span>lum, InteRDom has begun to develop short programs to respond to specific proposals presented by universities and centers. <\/span>The <\/span><\/span>programs run from 1 \u2013 4 weeks based around <\/span>specific subjects and themes. <\/span>Some topics ex<\/span>plored in 2011 include: <\/span>the Dominican Carnaval<\/span><\/a><\/span>, political science, <\/span>service-learning<\/span><\/a><\/span>, Colonial Latin America and its effects on modern Dominican identity and Sp<\/span>anish language immersion. <\/span><\/span>The concept<\/span><\/span> of<\/span> Expert<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> Spanish<\/span> Caribbean<\/span> is<\/span> the<\/span> result of<\/span> the desire of the program to specialize its program offering and to generate<\/span> a culture<\/span> of exchange<\/span>. <\/span>The short programs complement<\/span> the<\/span> vision<\/span> of<\/span> <\/span>InteRDom\u2019s parent institutions Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundacion Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) <\/span>to generate<\/span><\/span> innovative programming and conversation<\/span> around<\/span> issues<\/span> relevant<\/span> to the region<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Inte<\/span>RDom wan<\/span>ts the new look and<\/span> content of the InteRDom blog to refle<\/span>ct th<\/span>ese<\/span>\"\"<\/a> th<\/span>emes, as well as other topics related to our work, such as international education, global b<\/span>usine<\/span>ss practices, career development strategies, D<\/span>ominican<\/span> and Caribbean issues and cross-cultural awareness. <\/span>The contr<\/span>ibutors to this blog are not only InteRDom staff membe<\/span>rs, but friends of the program, colla<\/span>borators, program alumni, current students and experts and professionals in a number of fields. <\/span>It is our hope that the things posted here will inspire lively debate and increased interest in intellectual exchange and the development of Hispaniola.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
