At the top of the mission statement is CDN\u2019s motto: the n<\/span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">ational leader in news.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">CDN<\/span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">s an important local channel in the Dominican Republic, not just for news but for sports broadcasting. CDN holds exclusive rights among local channels for Major League Baseball and <\/span><i style=\"\"><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;color:black;\">Liga de Beisbol Profesional de la Republica Dominicana <\/span><\/i><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;color:black;\">(Dominican Professional Baseball League)<span> broadcasts. The channel has a big responsibility to bring the favorite sport to citizens on television.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;color:black;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;color:black;\">CDN sports producer Ambiorix Vidal understands why base<\/span><\/span><span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;color:black;\">ball is so important to his country. As a former ballplayer, Vidal values the sport and sees the positive impact baseball has on the Dominican Republic. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;color:black;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;color:black;\">\u201c<i style=\"\">La marca pa\u00eds<\/i> is the national brand,\u201d Vidal said through an interpreter. \u201cThe Dominican Ministry of Tourism <\/span><\/span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">created the national brand to promote the <\/span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">Dominican Republic through everything. Baseball should do that.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">Vidal mentioned a plan for the Dominican League to play regular season games in New York to promote the national brand, but the plan did not come together because Dominican League games are scheduled for the fall and winter months, when it is too cold to play baseball in New York City. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">Vidal sees how Dominican businesses ca<\/span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">n use baseball to connect with their customers. Local bank Banco BHD runs a television advertisement during CDN baseball broadcasts for their bank cards and credit cards featuring Dominican League tea<\/span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">m logos. The commercial shows fans of each of the six Dominican League teams, wearing their team\u2019s colors and coming together in the end as fans of baseball rather than just one team.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">\u00abThe commercial identifies the fan with their team,\u201d Vidal said. \u201cIt identifies BHD as a brand that supports baseball here.\u00bb <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">The week after the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series, CDN broadcast a special report on the Cardinals team. It showed footage of the Cardina<\/span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">ls celebrating after their win and featured intervie<\/span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">ws with popular Latin American players. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">Albert Pujols, born in Santo Domingo, was one <\/span><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">of the subjects. Pujols is one of the most popular players in MLB in the United States and is considered the best player among Dominican fans. Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was also interviewed on CDN\u2019s special. They stay together because of their common language of Spanish and because players in the minors share everything, from food to living quarters to money.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">\u201cAs a channel, CDN promotes the familiarity so the fans can know it,\u201d Vidal said. \u201cAll Latin Americans like to be familiar with one another.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\">While CDN brings baseball to Dominican fans, Vidal insists the best way to watch a baseball game is at the stadium, especially if the visiting team wins. It\u2019s standard procedure to favor the home team\u2019s broadcasts and leave out the visiting team\u2019s post game programming if the home team loses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\";font-family:&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cEach channel is the owner of their transmission,\u201d he said. \u201cThe visiting team won&#8217;t have their post game coverage on the local channel. Last year when Toros del Este won the league championship, ESPN Deportes showed their celebration.
