Orientation Week Events
Santo Domingo, June 15, 2009
InteRDom,
the premier internship and academic
study program in the Dominican
Republic, and its sponsoring
organizations Global Foundation for
Democracy and Development (GFDD)
and Fundación Global Democracia y
Desarrollo (FUNGLODE),
are proud to announce the start of
InteRDom’s Summer 2009 Program.
Monday, June 8, marked the official
welcome for the interns, who arrived
from the United States to carry out
internships with corporations and
organizations and realize academic
studies in Santo Domingo, Dominican
Republic.
The InteRDom team planned a series
of activities and events spread out
over the course of a week to help
the students to adapt to their new
environments and to adjust to
Dominican culture. The orientation
week activities included: an opening
presentation and tour of the
Foundation’s facilities, a tutorial
on business etiquette in the
Dominican Republic, a tour of
InteRDom’s partner university
Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE)
and a tutorial and practicum on the
use of public transportation in the
country.
On Thursday, June 11 the students
received a very “warm” welcome at
the Barceló Capella Resort in Juan
Dolio, relaxing and spending time
getting to know one another at the
beach resort.
The week concluded with the group’s
first cultural excursion of the year
to the Mirabal Sisters’ Museum in
Salcedo and to the Centro León
Cultural Center in Santiago. The
excursion allowed the interns to
become more familiar with Dominican
history and culture outside the
capital city of Santo Domingo.
Since it’s inception in 2005, over
50 students from international
universities have participated in
the InteRDom program. The students
