Since the early 1980s, tourism has become the largest and fastest growing industry in the Dominican Republic. The winner of Travel Weekly Magazine’s Readers Choice Award for Best Caribbean Destination of 2008, the island nation attracts more than three million visitors a year. The country’s vast geography, consisting of four major mountain ranges, tropical forests, pristine coastlines, desert-like environments and eight national parks, makes it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature-lovers alike.

In addition to having some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, the Dominican Republic is home to 22 golf courses -- some of them rated the best in the world.

The country’s capital, Santo Domingo, both cosmopolitan and historic, offers a plethora of recreational possibilities, from museums, monuments and parks, to shopping districts, restaurants, lounges and dance clubs. The city’s meticulously preserved Colonial Zone was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1990.

The Dominican Republic is also the site of more than 40 Taino cave dwellings that are of national and international archeological and anthropological importance, many of which can be visited by the public.

The Dominican Republic offers infinite possibilities for persons interested in hospitality and ecological and cultural tourism. Though the Dominican Republic has long been an icon of the all-inclusive resort model, the industry within the country is now moving towards a sustainable development model. InteRDom organizes internships for students of hospitality and tourism with business and hotels in the tourist areas of Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Constanza, Jarabacoa and Santo Domingo.

InteRDom provides internship opportunities for students with prominent public and private institutions related to: hotel management, marketing, regulation, management of parks and natural resources, culinary arts, quality control, recreational activities, event and travel coordination and transportation and logistics.
