How does an organization build a successful internship program? A good starting point is to learn how to define the goal of the internship program within your organization.

To facilitate organizations in determining this, InteRDom is offering a new training course, a first of its kind certification program for monitors of interns in the Dominican Republic. To be held three times per year, the seminar’s objective is to provide training to managers and employees of public, private and non-profit organizations affiliated with InteRDom on the implementation of successful internship programs. The seminar will also provide a venue to discuss exchange opportunities for Dominican and foreign students.

Once your organization identifies which program or area is able to receive interns, it should make certain that the project or task will be enriching for the company as well as for the professional development of the intern. This initiative will help your organization to formulate strategies for selecting projects that are most compatible to the capacities and interests of the intern.  Possible assignments for interns could include research and document analysis, development of training manuals, process revision, carrying out surveys, writing reports and articles on issues that will enrich the mission or presence of the organization in the market and developing training courses for employees. The possibilities are endless.

The internship coordinator certification program also offers a complete and systematic guide to organizations that wish to participate in the internship program for the first time.

InteRDom, the leading intern and academic studies program, promotes research and development in the Dominican Republic. The program offers companies and organizations excellent opportunities to realize and consolidate projects and management systems via collaboration with talented international interns ready to contribute their capacities and professional and academic experience.

Internships, in addition to attracting qualified people to the organizations, are a fundamental pillar in the educational process of the new generation, which encourages “learning-by-doing.” This type of learning should be carried out under conditions that are as similar to real workplace situations as possible, in order to better train the interns.

After several years of experience managing the internship program, we have encountered some areas that can be improved upon in the process, which undoubtedly has generated concern among organizations wishing to participate in the program. We work hard to ensure that each internship is a success – for the intern, for the company and for the InteRDom Program -- and support organizations in strengthening their own internship programs. It is for that reason we have developed the first certification program for internship coordinators in the Dominican Republic.

The internship coordinator certification program also offers a complete and systematic guide to organizations that wish to participate in the internship program for the first time. The guide is an extraordinary tool designed to facilitate organizations in: detecting when they may need the support of an intern on certain projects; selecting assertive and adequate interns to meet their needs; and creating realistic and objective learning plans and contracts. It is a tool that will help companies put in place adequate systems by which to monitor and evaluate the progress of the intern.

If you are directly involved the management of interns within your organization, register on our webpage www.interdominternships.org or write us at empresa@interdominternships.org  to register to participate in the certification program.
